GAY COMEDIANS HATE AIDS

I walked with about 10 fellow comedians in the AIDS Walk this past weekend. We're all not used to being out in the daytime so early, much less being out in the daytime with each other! Good thing we all decided to meet up prior at Leah Dubie's for a breakfast/carb pre-party or we wouldn't have recognized each other in the park. We finally made our way into the Central Park to assemble and walk with 45,000 other people who also hate AIDS. It was very confusing trying to figure out where to sign up. At one point we even had to jump a fence, where the very funny and very butch Anne Neczypor thought she'd flex some muscle and leap over the fence. Turns out she's not so agile before noon and she tore her arm open. True to form, she pretended it did not hurt although we could see tendons. She did remark that this was not the ideal event to walk around with an open wound. (We're fun to walk with!) About an hour more of fence hopping, mud and bullhorns we were already complaining. The walk had not even started yet - understand, again, we are night people. Finally the walk started and we walked about the length of a block where we thought we'd be better off having brunch. Mind you we just have bagels at Leah's but it was a situation that called for pancakes. But we felt we had done our part - we raised over $1500 between us and had a great time. My only complaint is that while they did have people on the sidelines passing out water and other roadside assistance, there were no volunteers onhand to pass out cigarettes. If I am ever in charge of an athletic event or an athletic fundraiser of sorts you can all be sure that there will be plenty of pre-lit cigarettes for those in need.

Speaking of inspiration. Caught Angela Shultz and Brett Kristofferson's show at Don't Tell Mama in NYC last night. Angela is a truly amazing singer with a huge voice that wears her heart on her sleeve and really touches you and Brett's music is so original, rich and brilliant. They are quite a pair together and I had that feeling that these two are going great places. Check them out.

Tonight I will see the face of God - yes finally, I am going to see LuPone in Gypsy. I PRAY that I do not get hit by a bus before 8pm tonight. And then I pray that I do not have a stroke after Rose's Turn.

I'm coming to Durham, NC in July, Chicago in August and San Francisco in September.

Come see me - let's have a cocktail.
